April Newsletter

April 11, 2025

Dear Parents, Staff, and Families of SAU 90,

Spring has arrived, and what an exciting time it is for our students! Right now, our school grounds are buzzing before and after school with students participating in sports, Girls on the Run (GOTR), jump rope club, and nature and gardening activities. A heartfelt thank you to the staff and parents who make these extended learning opportunities possible.

A big congratulations to the PTA for successfully hosting the Harlem Wizards event this past Monday night at Winnacunnet High School. Special thanks to Erica York and Sarah Elliott for spearheading this fun and popular event, which played to a sell-out crowd! The PTA is currently looking for parents and teachers to join their board and help coordinate these special experiences. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 5:00–6:00 PM in the Hampton Academy Community Room. Please consider supporting the PTA and partnering with us in this important work.

This week, I had the pleasure of visiting Centre School. It’s truly inspiring to see how much our students have grown! These walk-throughs give me a firsthand view of the incredible learning taking place. I’m filled with pride and joy when I think back to when our "Littles" first arrived in August. Be sure to check out our Facebook post!

Congratulations to our second graders on their final concert at Centre School this past Tuesday! They delighted us with their singing and dancing on the Academy stage. Don’t forget — Kindergarten Information Night is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15 at 5:00 PM.

At this week’s school board meeting, we honored the top five students from the Oratorical Contest at Hampton Academy. Their speech topics, subject knowledge, organization, and delivery were truly impressive. Congratulations to all our student participants, and many thanks to the staff and families who supported them!

Additionally, during the meeting, the board reaffirmed its decision to pause overnight field trips. This decision, which has been under discussion since last October during our budget planning, was made after careful consideration and at the recommendation of the leadership team. It reflects concerns about safety, liability and financial uncertainty. Field trips remain important opportunities to extend classroom learning, and we are committed to continuing meaningful, curriculum-connected experiences that are accessible to more students while balancing cost and impact. Each year, we review all trips for content, cost, and alignment with curriculum goals, and we are confident in our ability to provide engaging, inclusive and enriching alternatives.

A reminder: the last day of school for students is Tuesday, June 17, and it will be a half day. The 8th Grade Final Assembly will be held on Monday evening, and the 5th Grade Farewell Assembly will take place Monday afternoon. More information will be shared with families soon.

We’re also excited to host Camp Invention again this summer! A special thanks to Mrs. Olson and Miss Elwood, who will direct this popular regional program. Camp Invention will be held June 23–27 at Marston School for students in grades K–6. Space fills up quickly, so be sure to register early to reserve your spot: Camp Invention Registration.
