November Update

November 8, 2024

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

This coming Monday, November 11, there is no school in observance of Veterans Day.  This federal holiday is observed annually honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces.  This day provides us with the opportunity to honor all of service men and women in the area with our traditional assemblies and celebrations.  We pride ourselves on partnering with our friends at the American Legion Post 35 in Hampton along with Commander Berk Bennett.  It was a pleasure to honor our veterans through the activities, lessons, and assemblies in our schools this week.  In honor of this holiday, we thank all veterans for their service and pay tribute to all military personnel who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

This month, all parents will have the opportunity to attend parent conferences. We look forward to these opportunities to work with our families to discuss their child’s progress and their overall wellbeing as it pertains to their growth and success.

With the wintery days ahead, we thought it would be a good time to remind you that our school board supports snow days. Last year, we balanced days off with keeping our calendar in check. The current calendar builds in three snow days. All school delays and closures would be communicated through our messaging system.  It is important that we have your current contacts.  Please be sure that your information is up to date.  If you are unsure, please contact your child’s school or stop by the office during parent conferences.

All students have had the opportunity to participate in bully-prevention assemblies and classes in the past few weeks. We firmly believe that every child deserves to be safe and treated with respect. As part of our work, we have increased our focus on kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. This ongoing work is aimed at focusing on bully prevention and cyberbullying. Research shows that bullying can be stopped but true change requires consistent education and intervention. Some of our assemblies are currently being shown on our local cable station, Channel 8. Special thanks to Nick Giarrusso and our technology department for all their work and efforts!

We are still seeking substitutes/guest teachers and custodians.  Teacher substitute rate is $110/day and para educator rate are $95/day.  If you love our children, and you have availability during the week, we encourage you to apply.  We offer very flexible schedules and hope you will consider this opportunity.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

As we enter the holiday season, please remember that our Outreach Worker, Emily Fixler is available to assist families with community resources.  She can be reached at efixler@sau90.org or 603-926-2000, extension 726.  Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a happy, holiday this year.

This weekend, Winnacunnet Theatre’s Fall Play, “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” will be presented.  Be sure to check the attachment for further details.

Remember to thank a veteran over the long weekend!

Warmly,

Dr. Lois B. Costa

Superintendent of SAU 90
