Weekly Update 8/30/2024

August 30, 2024

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back to the 2024-2025 school year!  We have had a wonderful first week back, and there were so many wonderful memories that were created in these first days of school.  It is my pleasure to serve as your superintendent.  I have always held firm to the belief that we are partners in the educational process.  By working together with families, our students benefit and only then can they reach their full potential.  In my efforts to keep channels of communication open, I will be providing you with a monthly newsletter which will come out on the second Friday of the month.  This is a change in past practice and based on the feedback received.  Given that the schools communicate on a regular basis, I wanted to be sure that the news was timely and purposeful without being redundant.  The purpose of my letter is to inform you of district news and events.  I would also like to assure you that I visit schools every week so that I have a pulse on students and staff.  Highlights from my visits can be found on our district Facebook page. Additionally, if there is anything that me or my office can do to assist you, please feel free to contact us.  We are housed at the Adeline C. Marston School on Marston Way, and we can be reached at 603-926-4560.  Additionally, my email is lcosta@sau90.org

What a terrific start we have had to the new year!  It was so nice to see so many happy faces on Monday during our Meet the Teacher. Students and families seem eager to be back at school, visiting with their teachers, and connecting with their classmates.  On Tuesday, the school year officially began!  The excitement and energy in the school buildings and around the district was palpable!  Hampton Academy rung in the new year with their annual tradition of ringing the bell!  The youngest students helped to usher in the new year as the bells sounded across the front lawn of Hampton Academy!

We recognize that there were some bus issues this week.  We thank you for reaching out to us as we work with First Students.  Let me assure you that we are in contact with the bus company as we try to make changes that benefit our students.  As it was explained to me, there are new drivers, new routes, and new stops that were put into place to help with the bus routes.  I was pleased to see the progress from Tuesday to Thursday, and I am hopeful that this will only continue to improve.  With that said, please continue to reach out to the schools and First Student (603) 964-2322, if you have any specific feedback.  Remember on these warm summer days, beach traffic can delay bus runs.

There were several forms that were sent out this week.  Please be sure that you return these forms as soon as possible.  Remember our data is only as accurate as the information we have on file.  Please be sure to keep your information up to date.  We are asking all families to complete a Free and Reduced Lunch Form this year.  This helps with federal funding and ensures accuracies with accounting.

In closing, there is so much hope and possibility for the year ahead.  We are happy to work with all our stakeholders, and we will continue to honor those relationships.  Wishing you a long Labor Day Weekend ahead.

Warmest wishes for a great school year,
Dr. Lois B. Costa
