Weekly Update

May 17, 2024

Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,

On Monday, I had the opportunity to spend some time at Hampton Academy.  Our middle school students are in the middle of their New Hampshire Assessments.  There was a sense of seriousness and purpose as I visited students in their classrooms as they wind down the school year.  There has been an increase in behaviors at the middle school, which has been brought to my attention.  Consistency in expectations and reminders about the Hampton Academy Way will help to reinforce student conduct.  These include - Manage Yourself, Act Responsibly, and Respect Yourself and Others.  It is our intent to provide our students with a quality education in a safe, healthy, and happy environment.  This is contingent upon everyone doing their part.  We appreciate your partnership as we continue to work together on our students’ behalf.

Students continue to participate in end-of-year assessments.  These are used to monitor student progress and to inform our instructional programs. Remember, for students to perform at their best, it is important for students to get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive to school on time. Your support and attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.

This week, I had the pleasure of accompanying our eighth graders to Washington DC.  This culminating experience proved to be a learning opportunity while enjoying time together as a class.  Many of these students have been together since kindergarten and while others have joined us along the way or even just this year.  Regardless of when they joined this class, it was obvious that there was a lot of friendship, respect, and caring for one another which led to a very successful and enjoyable field trip.  We are grateful to all of the adults who spent much of their time planning such a wonderful trip that have provided all of us with memories that will last a lifetime.  Please be sure to check out our Facebook post which features many of the highlights from our trip.

Each week, I try to provide you with relevant information, updates in our district, and current events.  This is my way of partnering with all our stakeholders in my efforts to communicate with you.  There is always something to share, and it is a pleasure doing so.  I am now asking you to share with me.  As our school year winds down, I am looking for your thoughts and feedback.  Specifically, I am seeking to know more about highlights from the school year, focal areas for improvement, and anything else you think would be important for me to know as we plan for the 2024-2025 school year.  This brief survey will be used to set goals and objectives for our district over the summer with our leadership team.  Please take some time between now and June 12 to complete the attached survey. Thank you in advance.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend ahead!

Warmly,
Dr. Lois B. Costa
