Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,
Wednesday, May 8, was National School Nurse Day. Our school nurses support student and staff health every day. This week, we took time to celebrate and honor the contributions our school nurses, along with the rest of our staff, make daily by providing bagels and toppings. This is our way of thanking everyone for their support and dedication. Mrs. Richards, Mrs. Connolly, Ms. Frazier, and Mrs. Levesque are essential to our daily work, ensuring the health and well-being of our school community. We are extremely grateful and appreciative of all their loving care each and every day!
Later that evening, I had the opportunity to join the Hampton Rotary at the Community Oven to celebrate our student of the month, David Cucau and our top three oratorical winners, which included Emily Arlington, Zavier Lapierre, and Chae Grugnale. We appreciate our partnership with the rotary and an opportunity to celebrate our students’ accomplishments. Please be sure to check out Facebook post for some highlights from the evening.
This morning, I had the opportunity to attend the New Hampshire School Administrator’s Champions for Children Celebration! Mr. Kent Hemingway of the Lakes Region, Mr. Arthur ‘Wimp’ Boutin of North Country, Ms. Jennifer Maslanek of South Central, Mr. Steven Lennon of Southwest, and Mr. Vic Maloney of the Southeast were all recognized for the work they do on behalf of our children. It is our pleasure to partner with Seacoast Youth Services, where Mr. Vic Maloney serves as the Executive Director and founded the agency in 2001. To all our New Hampshire Champions, thank you for all the work that you do on behalf of our youth!
At this time of year, students in grades three through eight are participating in the New Hampshire Statewide Assessment System, also known as NH SAS. These assessments are comprised of English Languages Arts which includes reading and writing components, mathematics, and science in grades 5 and 8 only. These tests are based on the academic standards set by the New Hampshire State Board of Education and the Hampton School District. This is just one way our district measures student learning. Additionally, students in grades two through eight will also participate in STAR assessments. This test is administered in the fall, winter, and spring. It is used to monitor student progress and ensure academic growth over the course of the school year. It is our greatest desire to work with all students and families on student success. If you have any questions about your child’s progress or academic program, please be sure to reach out to us.
There are a few upcoming events that we would like to bring to your attention. May 17 is Caps for Cure Day in memory of Evan Austin. Please consider donating to Caps for Cure at www.capsforthecure.org and wearing a hat in honor of our Superhero, Evan. A flyer with more information is attached.
Finally, mark your calendar for the Hampton PTA and Hampton Parks and Recreation’s final event, Party on the Park on June 1 from 4 – 7:00 PM. There is no cost to attend, and this should be a grand way to celebrate the end of the school year.
Wishing you a sunny Mother’s Day weekend ahead!
Warmly,
Dr. Lois B. Costa
Superintendent of SAU 90
